FAQ's

Is a weight loss coach like a trainer?
Coaching and training are very different. I’ve worked with trainers in the past and have tremendous appreciation for the work they do. Trainers primarily focus on exercise and motivation, and may even recommend certain eating plans. Whereas, Weight Loss Coaching focuses on the psychological piece of why we overeat. Most of us know what we should be doing in order to lose weight, but we don’t do it. The reason we’re not doing it is always because of something we think about ourselves and/or our circumstances. As a weight loss coach, I help my clients find those thoughts and replace them with more useful ones.

Is a coach similar to a therapist?
Having a Masters degree in Marriage & Family Therapy, I’ve worked as a therapist and recognize the tremendous value the right therapy can bring clients. The biggest difference between the two is that therapy is more past-focused, whereas coaching is focused on the present. One of the statements I find myself making to clients is this…“your past has nothing to do with your future”. At first, some people are confused by this, but soon realize that when they stop looking in that rear-view mirror, they have far more energy to focus as they look straight ahead.
